Lindsay Corporation has an exciting opportunity for an Applications Engineer (AE) for the Infrastructure Road Zipper Program to join the global headquarters in Omaha, NE. The AE will be responsible to work independently while interfacing and collaborating with the sales team and engineering team to meet and exceed customer expectations. The AE will prepare, plan, and execute traffic engineering/control/Road Zipper proposals and assist in the delivery of contracts. Understanding the long lead times for multimillion-dollar opportunities and the ability to manage the various cycle phases of multiple projects and be responsive and communicative to internal and external team members is critical to success.

 Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Provide leadership and expertise in all aspects of traffic engineering/control regarding the Road Zipper Program.
  • Review bid specifications, traffic control plans and conduct analysis as to how the Road Zipper solution can benefit the projects goals.
  • Prepare and provide traffic engineering drawings and proposals for the project and provide guidance to the sales team on feasibility and best methodology for utilizing the Road Zipper and movable barrier system.
  • Coordinate with the sales team for calls, video conferences and potential meetings with transportation customers and engineering firm consulting practices, to review and discuss customer needs, goals and Lindsay Road Zipper potential solutions.
  • Create technical solutions and write technical proposal sections for integration into a total Lindsay proposal for presentation to customers.
  • Interface with the post-sales project manager and their team to ensure a seamless transition to meet or exceed customer expectations through final delivery of the project.
  • Communicate with the sales team in post presentation question and answer sessions, proposal revisions and refinements.
  • Establish best practices and processes for Road Zipper applications in the context of leading traffic engineering practices.
  • Serve as an exemplary team player and proactively work to resolve problems and continuously improve. Actively seek solutions to customer problems.
  • Consistently strive to meet both external and internal customer needs. Demonstrate the Lindsay core behaviors.
  • Work closely with the sales team to ensure traffic engineering output in both content and format meeting client needs and best positioning the company's offering to win profitable business.
  • Collaborate with engineering and other shared services as needed to produce feasible, industry leading managed lanes solutions and work zone traffic control solutions utilizing Lindsay's Road Zipper movable barrier system.
  • Ensure the proposals meet or exceed internal and industry standards, rules, regulations, laws, best practices, and customer expectations.
  • Participate in industry associations and societies to better understand customer needs, rules and regulations, and emerging trends in traffic engineering, managed lanes, and work zones.
  • Conduct reviews and create reports for executive staff as requested
  • Recommend ways to optimize and improve processes within the AE function.
  • Support the sales team in securing growth opportunities, offering new ideas that better meet customer requirements and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant traffic engineering experience, especially in state departments of transportation, work zones and other space-limited/congested roadways (bridges, tunnels, etc.) to reduce congestion and improve safety.
  • Managed lanes, Urban freeway design and work zone project experience is required.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of traffic engineering and maintenance of traffic control plans and ability to analyze, determine feasibility and integrate Road Zipper applications.
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Experience in and understanding of industry associations, agencies, and organizations such as AASHTO, TRB, ATSSA, ITSA, ITE, ASCE, state departments of transportation, consultants, contractors, toll authorities, concessionaires, FHWA, partners, stakeholders, etc.
  • Knowledge of roadway design, state bid lettings, alternative delivery methods such as design-build, P3 and performance contracting
  • Willingness to cross-train as a project manager
  • Experience internationally and with other cultures helpful
  • Knowledge of or experience in a manufacturing culture helpful.
