Lindsay Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a Materials Manager to join the manufacturing plant in Lindsay, NE.  This position reports directly to the Vice President of Global Sourcing with responsibility of S&OP coordination, material planning and inventory control effectiveness. The Materials Manager position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating materials activities including the identification of opportunities for operational improvements and achieving three primary objectives: (1) always have materials available for production and on-time to the customer; (2) ensure accuracy of inventory (location and quantity) and (3) minimum inventory investment.  

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, manage, and evaluate material management activities with an overall ownership of material ordering, availability, and scheduling targeting inventory levels, at a minimum.
  • Develop and communicate material management policies and procedures.
  • Manage plant materials process to support operations in meeting performance of all departments.
  • Manage and review inputs (Sales and Operations Planning process (S&OP), cycle counting, physical inventory) and controls (min./max. levels, lead times, etc.) of the ordering process to ensure that inventory levels (purchase parts, WIP, finished goods, consignment, in-transit etc.) to meet plant and customer expectations.
  • Monthly S&OP planning process optimizing OTD, manufacturing efficiency, and overall responsibility for inventory management.
  • Develops internal planning (run sizes, inventory balances, etc.) for new and existing product. Determines types, quantities, specifications, proposed delivery of all materials, from suppliers that support the manufacture of products.
  • Setup system to determine future part demand and setup Kanban system and plan for every part (PFEP).
  • Implement and monitor cycle count program to ensure systemic accuracy of inventory.
  • Plan and coordinate annual physical inventory in accordance with corporate accounting procedures.
  • Manage Excess/Obsolete reduction, inventory turns, and recognizing continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain open dialogue with other management to coordinate activities and improve performance and productivity.
  • Assists in analyzing and resolving daily shortage root cause investigation and resolution.
  • Lead the change management team for planning and implementing new product lines or Engineering changes to existing product.
  • Demonstrate a passion for customer service to meet internal and external customer expectations.

 Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree plus minimum 5 years Manufacturing Experience
  • Materials & Purchasing planning with a strong background knowledge of MRP systems and processes
  • APIC or CPM Certification is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of Kanban, inventory control and planning and lean manufacturing methods.
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot material shortages, quality, delivery problems, and plant safety.
  • Action-oriented, assertive, and diplomatic in order to get things done on time. This position requires multi-tasking and an individual who enjoys working with a sense of urgency and is capable of creative problem-solving to overcome challenges in materials leadership.
  • Detailed in doing required paperwork and computer inputs with a high degree of accuracy. Able to read and write in English.
  • Strong organizational, process management and decision-making skills, including the ability to plan, organize and schedule the work of others
  • Strong skills in obtaining and analyzing business information and data
  • Written and oral communication skills across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage others, delegate responsibility and provide support
  • Extensive experience and understanding of Industrial Manufacturing
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with Microsoft Navision a plus.
  • Work well under compressed time constraints
  • Able to evaluate, develop, and implement improvements quickly
